The Government of India has sanctioned the Fotu La tunnel project on National Highway-1 in Ladakh. It aims to improve connectivity across the high-altitude Fotu La Pass on the Srinagar–Leh highway.

The project will cover a total length of 2.65 Km. It includes a 1.96 Km twin-tube tunnel and 0.69 Km of approach roads. The tunnel will be developed as a unidirectional system to improve safety and traffic flow.
