ACME Group and Japan’s IHI Corporation have joined forces to develop India’s largest green ammonia plant at Gopalpur in Odisha. The estimated 30,000 INR-Crore project will produce nearly 0.4 Million Tonnes per Annum (MTPA) of green ammonia, primarily for export to Japan’s power and chemical sectors.

The proposed project has already secured land and completed Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), with commissioning targeted by 2029–30. Once operational, the facility is expected to mitigate over 0.8 Million Tonnes of Carbon emissions annually. The project will be financed through Japanese export credit agencies, international financial institutions, and equity contributions from both ACME and IHI.

Moreover, the ACME IHI Odisha green ammonia project aligns with the India–Japan Clean Energy Partnership and the Joint Declaration of Intent on Clean Hydrogen and Ammonia signed during the 15th Japan–India Annual Summit. The joint venture is structured with IHI holding a 30% stake and ACME retaining 70%. Meanwhile, this initiative marks a landmark Indo-Japanese collaboration, reinforcing India’s role as a global hub for clean energy manufacturing and export.
