A timeless narrative unfolds on the serene streets of Ashoka Crescent, Gurugram. This residence blends neoclassical grandeur with contemporary comfort, reflecting the evolving tastes of a modern family. It balances classic charm with the demands of present-day living. Far more than bricks and mortar, the home tells a story of family, connection, and continuity. Designed for a father and his two sons, the project stands as a visual anchor along the road edge, inviting quiet admiration within a vibrant locality.
The home sits on a corner plot with dual visibility along a main road. It carefully balances unity and privacy while responding to the distinct lifestyles of two brothers and their families. Spread across 4,423.97 sq. ft., with each floor measuring approximately 2,200 SqFt, the residence brings together functionality, privacy, and architectural distinction in a refined manner.
Planning Ashoka Crescent for a Modern Joint Family
The design responds directly to the family structure and lifestyle preferences. Each family occupies a clearly defined living zone. The father and one son reside on the lower two floors, while the other son occupies the upper two floors. The stilt-level ground floor serves as shared parking and a common entry point.
Each house features an independent entrance—one from the southern façade and the other from the western elevation. This planning ensures privacy without crossover, while preserving a cohesive architectural language. The design reinterprets the traditional Indian joint family setup for a modern context. Exclusive leisure spaces further reinforce individuality: a private basement for the lower duplex and a dedicated terrace for the upper duplex. Vastu principles and a well-planned circulation framework unify the home, from site planning to the interior detailing by groupDCA.

Duplex Living and Spatial Connectivity
The layout reads as two distinct homes within a duplex configuration, clearly expressed through the façade. Each residence includes its own spiral staircase and vertical cut-out, connecting the two levels internally. In addition, an internal staircase links both duplexes, encouraging interaction while maintaining privacy.
The design clearly separates public and private zones. Living spaces span two floors, while each family receives a dedicated entertainment level. This approach expands usable living areas and improves flexibility across floors.
The lower duplex includes a versatile basement that functions as the primary entertainment space. Designed to host 100–150 guests, it accommodates a dining area, bar, and silent zone. The space adapts easily to different occasions.
A glass sliding door allows partial or full activation of the basement while maintaining visual continuity. A lift and internal staircase connect this level to the stilt floor and the living areas above, ensuring smooth movement between entertainment and private zones.

Family-Centric Living at Ashoka Crescent
The upper ground floor forms the social heart of the home. It includes a family lounge, kitchen, dining area, powder room, mandir, guest bedroom, and the father’s suite. A large corner window in the northeast draws in soft morning light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The open-plan layout connects the TV lounge and dining areas, offering views of greenery and a relaxed setting enjoyed by the grandfather. A spiral staircase set within a double-height volume anchors the space. Beyond circulation, it becomes a sculptural element, with curated alcoves that display art, décor, and personal collectibles, adding layers of family memory.

Bedrooms that Reflect Individual Identity
The upper floor includes an informal lounge, originally planned as a gym and later enclosed in glass. Over time, it has evolved into a lively gathering space for music, conversation, and everyday interactions. Three bedrooms surround this lounge—two for the daughters and a master suite.
Each bedroom balances comfort and function. One daughter’s room features a bay window overlooking greenery, paired with muted beige and white tones. Furniture by Apartment 9 highlights fluting and moulding, while parquet flooring adds warmth. The second daughter’s room introduces a four-poster bed and a study area. The master bedroom adopts darker tones, with fluted and moulded details across wall panelling, the TV console, and a fluted glass partition, reinforcing the home’s cohesive design language.

Material Palette and Neoclassical Expression at Ashoka Crescent
The material palette relies on neutral tones across floors, ceilings, and walls. Each room reflects its function, the age of its occupants, and their personal needs. Neoclassical elements appear subtly throughout the home, lending character without overwhelming the spaces.
The lower floors adopt more formal colours and detailing. In contrast, the upper floors introduce a playful, experimental layer through antique accents, sculptural furniture, and textured finishes. The basement departs from restraint altogether, embracing bold colours and forms, evident in the blue upholstery and striking red coffee table.

The transition from interiors to outdoors feels seamless. The landscape blends structured planning with natural elements. Manicured lawns and topiary provide order, while lush greenery enhances privacy. The architecture connects effortlessly with the surrounding landscape, creating a calm and welcoming environment that softens the urban context.
Ashoka Crescent as a Contemporary Family Residence
This residence demonstrates how contemporary design can foster connection in an increasingly fragmented world. It balances private and shared spaces with clarity and intent. Drawing from neoclassical references, the home achieves a timeless presence while remaining rooted in modern living.
In a dense urban setting, Ashoka Crescent shows how thoughtful architecture can nurture relationships, create meaningful spaces, and contribute thoughtfully to the evolving architectural dialogue.
