The Silchar Greenfield Airport project will move forward as the Assam Government approved 3,000 bighas (approximately 992 Acres) at Doloo Tea Estate in the Cachar district. The land will be transferred to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the allocation was increased by 500 bighas from the earlier 2,500 bighas plan. The project will require an estimated 50 INR-Crore for land acquisition across Doloo, Lalbagh, and Mainagarh tea gardens.
Alongside the airport development, the Assam cabinent approved several other initiatives:
- Second Sainik School: Administrative approval granted for Assam’s second Sainik School at Longvaku, Karbi Anglong, with a project cost of 335 INR-Crore.
- Aerospace and Defence Project: A joint initiative at Assam Engineering College with Dassault Systèmes India Pvt Ltd. The project will be established over 5,000 SqFt at a cost of 243 INR-Crore, with the Assam government contributing 43 INR-Crore and Dassault Systèmes investing 200 INR-Crore.
- Mission Basundhara: Land allotment to 1,200 families under the flagship scheme.
- Assam Logistics and Warehousing Policy 2025: Approved to transform Assam into a major logistics hub.

With the approval of this land transfer, the Silchar Greenfield Airport project moves closer to receiving the Union Cabinet’s nod. Moreover, once operational, the airport will greatly improve connectivity in southern Assam. It will further support regional development and provide modern infrastructure to meet growing air travel demand.
