Bengaluru will be making one of its biggest leaps in the field of public transport with the Karnataka Cabinet giving the go-ahead to an estimated 9,700 INR-Crore double-decker flyover at Bengaluru Metro Phase 3. It will develop metro lines on flyovers above two critical corridors. The project will enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and decrease traffic congestion along major routes.
The first one will be between the JP Nagar 4th Phase and Kempapara on the outer ring road. This will be a 28.486 Km flyover, making it the longest in Bengaluru. The second corridor will be between Hosahalli and Kadabagere on Magadi Road, 8.635 Km long. The total length of the two double-decker corridors will be 37.121 Km.

The tenders for the first four packages will be floated in September, with the bids closing by mid-November. In August 2024, the Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 plan became the first significant milestone by receiving the Union Cabinet clearance, allowing the civil work to begin in early 2025. Moreover, it is scheduled for completion by May 2031 at a revised cost of 5% more than the original 15,11 INR-Crore. The plan will further integrate roads for metro infrastructure and future-ready urban mobility for Bengaluru.
