The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finalised the 11,166 INR-crore agreement for developing the desalination plant facility at Manori, selecting GVPR Engineers Limited as the project contractor. To deliver this large project effectively, the civic plan allocates 4,077 INR-crore for construction and 2,067 INR-crore for long-term maintenance.

The desalination facility will come up on an anticipated 12 Hectares (Ha) plot in Manori village and will start with a 200 MLD capacity, which can later expand to 400 MLD. Construction is planned to begin in 2026 after all technical and legal approvals are completed. Additionally, the BMC has also invited a tender for a conveyance tunnel to move treated water from Manori to Charkop. From there, it will be connected to the Mahavir Nagar shaft for smooth integration into the city’s water network.
