BMC gives nod for new clubhouse, banquet hall at Mahalaxmi Racecourse spanning 32.17 Acres

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on June 27, approved the redevelopment proposal submitted by the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC). According to the layout, two new buildings will be constructed featuring a clubhouse and a banquet hall. 

The new buildings will spread across an anticipated 32.17 Acres and will be developed in the place of the existing Gymkhana at Mahalaxmi Racecourse. One building will comprise a basement plus a seven-storey clubhouse, while the other will consist of a banquet hall.

In the first building, from the ground to the second floor, the clubhouse will feature sports amenities like paddle, badminton, squash, and tennis courts. Additionally, it will offer restaurants, bakeries, and locker rooms. Meanwhile, the third to seventh floors will consist of over 101 lodging rooms. Two levels of basement for parking have also been earmarked.

The second building is set to be a 14.27 Meters single-storey structure, featuring a banquet hall and green rooms. This redevelopment will further require NOCs from the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA), as the land has been categorised in the CRZ II bracket in the DCPR 2034.
