The Government signed MoUs worth an estimated 13,000 INR-Crore to advance the Nawada power project, marking one of Bihar’s largest clean‑energy investments to date. The agreements aim to boost the state’s storage capacity and strengthen long‑term energy security.
Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) signed two MoUs with private developers to set up 2,120 MW of pumped‑storage capacity in Nawada district. Moreover, these projects fall under the Bihar Pump Storage Project Promotion Policy, 2025.
Under these, GreenCo Energies Pvt Ltd will develop a 1,200 MW pumped‑storage project in Ekamba village with an investment of 7,800 INR-Crore. Meanwhile, Sun Petrochemicals Pvt Ltd will build a 920 MW project in Gosaitari village. The project will be developed with an estimated cost of 5,200 INR-Crore. Together, the two projects will add a combined storage capacity of 14,281 MWh, with GreenCo contributing 7,308 MWh and Sun Petrochemicals adding 6,973 MWh.

The MoUs bring together multiple public and private partners. Moreover, the government plans to use the Nawada power project to boost generation, improve grid stability, and support rising industrial demand. The investment also aligns with the state’s broader push to expand clean and reliable power infrastructure.
The project will create large‑scale employment during construction. It will also generate long‑term economic activity across equipment supply, logistics, and maintenance. Furthermore, the government expects the project to attract additional investments in the surrounding region.
