The Union Cabinet has approved the rail projects across Bengal and Jharkhand with an estimated investment of 4,474 INR-Crore. The approval aims to increase track capacity and improve operational efficiency on busy freight and passenger corridors.

The approval covers two rail multitracking projects. The first involves the Kharagpur–Jharsuguda section, which will add additional tracks to improve connectivity between West Bengal and Odisha while supporting freight movement from industrial clusters and ports. The second project involves the Andal–Sainthia section in West Bengal. The works will also involve track laying, signaling infrastructure upgrades, and associated railway systems across the selected corridors. This corridor upgrade will enhance passenger and freight operations in the region and support railway connectivity to coalfields and industrial areas.
