The Union Cabinet approved an estimated 1,677 INR-Crore civil enclave development at Srinagar International Airport on Tuesday, February 24. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) took the decision in New Delhi. The approval directs the construction of a new terminal and support infrastructure to expand aviation services at the airport.
Authorities will develop the project on an anticipated 73.18 Acres within the existing airport complex. It includes a new terminal building with a total built-up area of 71,500 SqM, integrating 20,659 SqM of existing structure. The terminal will handle 2,900 passengers during peak hours and serve 10 million passengers per annum. The upgrade also covers apron expansion, 15 aircraft parking bays, and multi-level car parking for 1,000 vehicles.

The infrastructure package further includes the construction of barracks for security personnel and modern passenger processing systems. The airport’s 3,658 M runway will remain under the operational control of the Indian Air Force, while the civil enclave terminals will be operated by the Airports Authority of India. The project targets a 5-Star GRIHA rating with sustainability provisions.
