Cabinet clears Delhi Metro Phase V(A), adds 16 Km at 12,015 INR-Crore

The Union Cabinet, on Wednesday, December 24, approved Delhi Metro Phase V(A), adding 16 Km. The project will be developed at an estimated cost of 12,015 INR-Crore. The Delhi Metro Phase V(A) expansion is expected to improve connectivity and ease congestion across central, south, west, and north Delhi.

The approved corridors include R K Ashram Marg–Indraprastha, Aerocity–IGD Airport Terminal‑1, and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj. The R K Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor will extend the Botanical Garden–R K Ashram Marg line and provide metro access to the Central Vista area, which is currently under redevelopment. The Aerocity–IGD Airport Terminal‑1 and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj stretches will form extensions of the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor. These will connect south Delhi areas such as Saket, Chhatarpur, and Kalindi Kunj with the domestic airport terminal.

The Delhi Metro Phase V(A) corridors will also include 13 stations, of which 10 will be underground and three elevated. Planned stations on the R K Ashram Marg–Indraprastha section include R K Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha. Meanwhile, Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj section will feature Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar, and Kalindi Kunj. The Aerocity station will be connected further to IGD Terminal‑1.

Construction of Phase IV of the Delhi Metro, covering 111 Km and 83 stations, is currently underway. About 80.43% of civil work on three priority corridors has been completed, with commissioning expected in stages by December 2026. At present, Delhi Metro operates around 395 Km of lines with 289 stations across Delhi and the National Capital Region.
