The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved an estimated 8,146.21 INR-Crore for a 700 MW Arunachal hydroelectric project. The project, named Tato-II, will be implemented in Shi Yomi district. It will be executed by a joint venture between the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government. This move comes weeks after China began constructing the world’s largest river dam on the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra.
The construction of the Arunachal hydroelectric project will take around six years to complete. The Center will provide nearly 458.79 INR-Crore to build roads, bridges, and transmission lines. Meanwhile, it will also give 436.13 INR-Crore as equity support to the state.
