BMC receives final approval from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to divert 19.43 Hectares (Ha) of forest land for twin tunnels. This will be a part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project, with an estimated cost of 6,548 INR-Crore.
The GMLR project, being executed in 4 phases, has a total estimated cost of 14,000 INR-Crore. As part of Phase III (B) of the GMLR project, it will feature a triple-lane box tunnel at Film City and a twin tunnel beneath SGNP. It will form a 6.65 Km corridor including link roads. These tunnels will each span 4.7 Km and 45.7 Meters in width. Furthermore, it will pass beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Borivali.

The twin tunnels will run 20-160 Meters below the ground and will feature advanced lighting, ventilation, fire safety, CCTV, and control rooms at both ends, with cross passages every 300 Meters.
Meanwhile, the GMLR project, spanning an anticipated 12.2 Km, is expected to be completed by October 2028. It will connect Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, reducing the travel time from 75 Minutes to 25 Minutes.
