In a major infrastructure push, the central government has approved three high-impact Jammu Kashmir highway projects worth an estimated 43,010 INR-Crore. These national highways are designed to transform regional mobility, enhance security, and unlock tourism potential across the Union Territory.

The first project is a 43 Km 4-lane highway from Samba to Udhampur, in Jammu Kashmir, costing 7,418 INR-Crore. Once completed, it will reduce travel time between Pathankot and Udhampur from over four hours to just two. Moreover, this highway will bypass congested military zones and offer a direct route for tourists heading to Srinagar.

The second is the 28,679 crore Kathua–Bhaderwah–Doda highway. This highway will further upgrade the existing state road into a 4-lane national corridor. Starting from Lakhanpur, the gateway to J&K, it will pass through Kathua, Basohli, Bani, and Bhaderwah before connecting to NH-44 in Doda.

Meanwhile, the third project involves a 130 Km double-lane highway linking Bhaderwah to Chamba in Himachal Pradesh. This highway is estimated to cost 6,913 INR-Crore. Moreover, this route will strengthen inter-state connectivity and support economic integration between J&K and Himachal.

All three projects have completed their Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and budget provisions are in place. Construction is expected to begin soon.
