The Tamil Nadu Government has allocated 2,126 INR-Crore to extend the Chennai Metro Rail network to the upcoming Parandur Airport. This major funding includes an estimated 1,836 INR-Crore for land acquisition and 252 INR-Crore for early civil works. With this move, authorities aim to speed up the Parandur Airport Metro project, improve last-mile connectivity, and enhance Chennai’s transport infrastructure.
The project will cover 53 Km of elevated corridors with 20 stations, divided into two phases. Phase I will run 28 Km from Poonamallee to Sunguvarchatram with 14 stations, while Phase II will extend the line to Parandur. Moreover, this link will extend Corridor 4 and integrate with existing and under-construction lines, allowing smooth interchanges for commuters.
