Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Thursday, January 22, laid the foundation stone for the rejuvenation of the Munak Canal and announced the construction of an Elevated road over the canal. The project, estimated at 5,000 INR-Crore, will ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across outer Delhi.
The canal, which has remained in poor condition for years, will be comprehensively cleaned, beautified, and equipped with permanent Chhath ghats. Moreover, the elevated road will connect Inderlok Metro Station with Urban Extension Road-II. It will further provide signal-free movement towards Rohini and other parts of outer Delhi.

Officials said the work is expected to be completed before the next Chhath Puja. Once completed, the area is expected to attract daily visitors for walks and recreational activities. The plan also includes the construction of a new road along the canal and widening of the Singalpur Bridge. Besides, rejuvenation will involve removing sludge and waste to ensure clean water flow. Permanent concrete steps for Chhath Puja will be built on both sides, along with landscaped parks, trees, and green spaces.
Finally, service roads will be developed on both sides of the canal with proper paving, footpaths, solar lighting, and safety features. Overall, the elevated road over Munak canal project represents a major step in improving civic amenities and urban mobility in Delhi.
