India has officially floated international tenders for the long-awaited Sawalkote hydroelectric project. This massive 1,856 MW initiative, on the Chenab River in Jammu & Kashmir, is valued at an estimated 22,704 INR-Crore. The mega project is further set to become the country’s largest run-of-the-river hydropower scheme.

Located near Sidhu village in Ramban district, the Sawalkote hydroelectric project will feature a 192.5 M-high concrete gravity dam, along with three diversion tunnels. Additionally, it will include an underground powerhouse with eight 225 MW units and one 56 MW unit for environmental flow. Once completed, the Sawalkote hydroelectric project will generate over 8,000 Million units of clean energy annually.
