The series will offer detailed insights into major projects, investments, and policy initiatives during FY 2024-25, contributing to the growth and modernization of India’s road network.
Overview
In FY 2024–25, the South Zone focused on expanding roads connectivity across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, linking industrial hubs, ports, and urban centers. Key initiatives under the Bharatmala and Gati Shakti programs included the Hyderabad–Bengaluru–Chennai corridors and the upgrade of critical port access roads. These further enhanced freight efficiency and reduced travel times. By strengthening industrial clusters and urban logistics networks, the South Zone reinforced its position as a major driver of southern India’s economic growth and infrastructure development
The Central Zone continued to play a strategic role in connecting India’s heartland during FY 2024–25, facilitating trade, agriculture, and urban development. Highway projects in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, including the Bhopal–Indore Expressway and key national highway expansions, improved access to industrial belts, mining regions, and transport hubs. These developments not only accelerated regional mobility but also integrated central India more closely with national economic corridors. These supported both industrial growth as well as inter-state connectivity.
FY 2024–25 saw the Northeast Zone advance its strategic infrastructure agenda, enhancing connectivity across the eight states and addressing challenging terrains. Projects such as the NH-715 widening in Assam and the Dhubri–Phulbari Bridge improved cross-border access and linked remote areas to national highways. By promoting trade corridors, facilitating regional economic activity, and integrating border regions with the national economy, these initiatives reinforced the Northeast Zone’s role as a bridge between the country’s eastern and northeastern frontiers.
