JSW Energy announced a major expansion of the Salboni Thermal Power Project in West Bengal. The company will double the plant’s capacity from 1,600 MW to 3,200 MW, marking one of the largest private‑sector power investments in the state.

The first phase includes a 1,600 MW (2×800 MW) ultra‑supercritical plant. JSW Energy has already secured environmental clearance for this phase, which involves an estimated investment of 16,000 INR-Crore. Moreover, the company plans to execute the expansion in phases, subject to regulatory approvals and fuel tie‑ups. JSW already holds a 25‑year PPA with the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for the first phase.
