In a major move to boost regional connectivity, the Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the construction of an estimated 6,363 INR-Crore elevated road linking Thane with the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). This 25-Km six-lane corridor represents a major urban infrastructure initiative. It will significantly cut travel time between Thane and the airport, giving commuters a faster, smoother, and safer route.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will develop the Thane Navi Mumbai elevated road under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Moreover, the Cabinet has allowed CIDCO to acquire extra land for commercial use. It has also permitted the use of government-owned land beneath the corridor at nominal rates, making execution easier. The project will have six interchanges and support speeds of up to 100 Km/Hr. As a result, travel time will drop from 90 minutes to just 30 minutes, reducing traffic on major arterial roads.

To begin quickly, CIDCO must secure all necessary permissions and clearances within six months. Although the project is expected to finish in three years, delays may occur due to land acquisition or environmental approvals. Once completed, the elevated road will improve airport access, attract new investments, generate employment, and boost real estate activity, making Thane and Navi Mumbai key economic growth hubs in Maharashtra.
