The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated an estimated 3,000 INR-Crore project to build a 102 Km 4-lane highway connecting Muzaffarpur and Barauni. The upcoming highway will ease congestion on NH-28 and improve regional connectivity.
The highway between Muzaffarpur and Barauni will include two major bridges, 16 smaller bridges, and 16 underpasses. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is finalized, and tenders are expected next month. Additionally, this highway will feature an expanded Ramdayalu bridge and upgraded access points. This design supports smoother traffic flow and safer travel. Furthermore, the corridor is expected to extend up to 80 Km when loops and connectors are included.

The historical survey documents from 1962 are being reviewed to assess land acquisition needs. Meanwhile, much of the proposed highway route between Muzaffarpur and Barauni is flanked by government land, which may streamline approvals. This highway will further reduce travel time and boost trade across Bihar. It aligns with the state’s infrastructure goals and economic development plans.
