NHPC floats 5,129 INR-Crore civil works tender for Sawalkot hydro project in J&K

NHPC Limited has floated a civil works tender for the Sawalkot hydroelectric project valued at an estimated 5,129.03 INR-Crore. The 1,856 MW project is located in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The tender covers major civil and hydro-mechanical works under the Lot-1 package. This includes construction of diversion tunnels, coffer dams, access tunnels, dam structures, and associated roads. The package also includes hydro-mechanical installations required for water control and flow regulation on the Chenab River. Meanwhile, online bids under domestic competitive bidding are invited, with submission due by 20 March 2026 and techno-commercial bids scheduled to open on 24 March 2026. The contractor selection process will follow a two-part technical and financial evaluation, and pricing will be finalised through an electronic reverse auction.

The NHPC Sawalkot hydroelectric project is located near Sidhu village in Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir. The project received environmental clearance in 2025 and will be developed in a phased manner. Moreover, it will include multiple construction packages for civil works, tunnelling, and plant infrastructure. The project’s broader scope remains unchanged, with the main civil works tender representing a significant step in advancing construction activities.
