On Monday, June 16, the Government of Odisha approved 8 mega projects with a combined investment of 1.51 Lakh INR-Crore. These projects expected to create more than 62,000 employment opportunities, span across various sectors such as aluminium, steel, chemicals, etc.
These projects sprawling 6 districts, namely, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Sambalpur. High-Level Clearance Authority (HCLA) approved these projects during the meeting chaired by CM Mohan Charan Majhi.

Since June last year, the government has held six meetings, approving 62 industrial projects. Together, these mega projects will invest 5.67 Lakh INR-Crore in Odisha and potentially create 2.42 Lakh jobs across the state.
District-wise breakdown of the investment
- Dhenkanal:
- In this district Aluminium sector will see its largest investment so far, as Vedanta Limited is committing to 1.28 Lakh INR-Crore to set up a 3 MTPA aluminium smelter and a 4900 MW captive power plant. It is expected to generate over 30,000 job opportunities.
- 1.26 MTPA specialty steel processing unit by Jindal India Steel, investing 3,600 INR-Crore is expected to generate 2000 jobs.
- Ganjam:
- SRF Limited to invest 10,000 INR-Crore in a specialty chemicals and refrigerant manufacturing unit, creating nearly 20,000 jobs.
- Keonjhar:
- Supreme Metals Export Private Limited has proposed setting up a 1.2 MTPA rolling mill for TMT bars and wire rods, with an investment of 1,500 INR-Crore. It is expected to generate approximately 680 jobs.
- Shyam Steel Manufacturing Ltd has proposed an investment of 2,490 INR-Crore. The plan includes a 0.53 MTPA integrated steel plant, a ductile iron (DI) pipe unit, a 46 MW captive power plant, and is expected to generate around 2,370 jobs.

- Khurda:
- To establish a cotton and blended yarn manufacturing unit, Sportking India Limited will invest 2,055 INR-Crore. The project has an annual production capacity of 62,000 MT and is expected to create 4,800 employment opportunities.
- Jajpur:
- Linde India Limited plans to invest 1,303.50 INR-Crore to set up an Air Separation Unit, supplying high-quality industrial gases and generating employment for 100 people.
- Sambalpur:
- Star Metal Works Pvt Ltd plans to set up a narrow hot strip mill, cold rolling mill, and plate-cum-Steckle mill in Sambalpur with an investment of 2,291 INR-Crore. The project will create 250 jobs.
