Patel Engineering signed an MoU with the Arunachal Pradesh Government to revive and develop the 144 MW Gongri Hydropower Project. The project sits in West Kameng district near Dirang and forms part of the state’s push to restore stalled hydropower assets. Meanwhile, the overall project will have an estimated cost of 1,700 INR-Crore.

Under the MoU, Patel Engineering will manage the entire lifecycle of the project. The company will prepare and validate the detailed project report (DPR). It will also handle engineering and design, procure electro‑mechanical equipment, and construct the dam and powerhouse. Moreover, the scope includes installation and commissioning of turbines and generators, along with the development of transmission infrastructure.

The Gongri Hydropower Project will be implemented on a BOOT model with a 40‑year lease period. Patel Engineering plans to complete construction in about four years, marking a major step in the state’s hydropower revival programme. The project was earlier terminated but has now been restored under the Arunachal Pradesh Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Policy, 2025.

The project lies on the Gongri River, a tributary of the Bichom River in the Kameng basin. It is the first hydropower project to be revived under the new policy, signalling the state’s commitment to accelerating clean‑energy development. Furthermore, the revival aligns with Arunachal Pradesh’s broader “Decade of Hydropower” vision, which aims to position the state as a major hydropower hub.
