Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, December 21, laid the foundation stone for the estimated 10,600 INR‑Crore fertiliser project in Assam. The project is expected to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen the state’s industrial base.

The proposed project will be developed as part of India’s push for self‑reliance in fertiliser production. Moreover, it will reduce dependence on imports and ensure timely supply to farmers. The Assam fertiliser project is designed to create thousands of jobs during construction and operation, supporting local economic growth. The plant is expected to be completed within five years and will produce 12.5 Lakh Metric Tonnes annually. Furthermore, it will serve farmers across the Northeast while also enabling exports to Bhutan and Myanmar.
