The Azim Premji Foundation announced plans to set up an estimated 1,000 INR-Crore super-specialty hospital in Bengaluru dedicated to organ transplant services. The initiative marks a major step in strengthening advanced healthcare infrastructure in Karnataka.
The Karnataka Cabinet approved signing an MoU with the Premji Foundation to allot 10 Acres of land on lease for 99 years. The land is located on the premises of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases. Moreover, the hospital will be developed near NIMHANS, a location that will enable organ harvesting from brain-dead donors.

The Foundation will establish a 300-bed hospital within three years, which will later expand to 1,000 beds in five years. The facility will support all types of organ transplants, including liver, kidney, heart, intestine, and others. Furthermore, the Premji organ transplant hospital will be implemented under a public philanthropic partnership. The entire investment, except for the land, will be borne by the Premji Foundation. The Foundation has committed to spending 350 INR-Crore annually to run the hospital, ensuring sustainability and high-quality care.
