Punjab to develop 7 new medical colleges across the state

The Punjab government has announced plans to establish 7 new Punjab medical colleges across the state. The projects will include government, PPP, private, and minority-run institutions across multiple districts.

The first project, Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences in Hoshiarpur, has received administrative approval of an estimated 274 INR-Crore. Construction will begin on 20 March and is scheduled for completion by March 2028. The campus will include a 300-bed teaching hospital and a medical college with 100 MBBS seats, along with academic blocks, laboratories, and library facilities.

Additionally, state government will also develop a government medical college in Kapurthala. Authorities have completed the tendering process, and they will begin construction work shortly. Meanwhile, the government will develop two PPP medical colleges in Sangrur and SBS Nagar. The state government has initiated the tendering process for these projects.

The state government will also develop a Jain minority medical college in Lehragaga, Sangrur district. The land has been leased through a memorandum of understanding. The government has also proposed a Muslim minority medical college in Malerkotla. It has submitted the detailed project report to the central government.

In addition, a private medical college is planned near Ludhiana, expanding private participation in medical education infrastructure in the state. The upcoming Punjab medical colleges will introduce new medical education campuses and associated hospital infrastructure across multiple districts in Punjab.
