To expand the Purple Line network in Kolkata, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has invited proposals worth 377 INR-Crore for setting up the IIM Metro Station and a 1.3 Km stretch of elevated viaduct. The tender covers a 1,370.825 M viaduct from Joka to the proposed IIM station. It also includes building the IIM station under Phase I of the Joka–Diamond Park corridor.

Kolkata Purple Line marks a key step toward extending services beyond the present Joka–Majerhat stretch. There is also construction underway in the Mominpur-Esplanade underground portion of the Joka -Esplanade corridor, which will further improve accessibility in the city.

The continued growth of Kolkata Metro underscores the effort taken by the city to enhance mass rapid transit. Three additional metro lines were approved in recent years, which drastically decreased the travel time and increased the congestion of road transportation. The RVNL bid for Kolkata Purple Line is anticipated to improve connectivity to outlying regions, provide more convenient transportation modes, and assist the city in its long-term urban transportation objectives.
