Shimla Ropeway project gets stage-1 in-principle approval

The Shimla ropeway project has received stage-1 in-principle approval from the Union Ministry of Forests, marking a major step in enhancing urban transport in the city. The 13.79 Km ropeway, estimated to cost 1,734.70 INR-Crore, will connect key locations.

The project will be constructed on 6.1909 hectares (Ha) of forest land, fully complying with environmental and legal norms. Construction is expected to be completed within four years. Additionally, the ropeway will feature 13 stations spanning the city, ensuring seamless connectivity across major points. The stations will include Taradevi, Judicial Complex Chakkar, Tutikandi Parking, New and Old ISBT Shimla, Railway Station, Secretariat Chota Shimla, Nav-Bahar, Sanjauli, IGMC, Ice Skating Rink, and near Hotel Chetan.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said the Shimla ropeway project is an important step toward a ‘Green Himachal’. Moreover, he added that environmental protection will remain a top priority, and all construction will follow the forest department guidelines.
