The Tamil Nadu Government approved the Airport-Kilambakkam metro line last week. The estimated project cost is 3,200 INR-Crore. Consequently, this approval cleared the way for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)to begin work. The authority will now construct a six-lane elevated corridor on GST Road. The project spans approximately 18.4 Km from the Kilambakkam bus terminus to Chettipunniyam.

The elevated corridor will be build on the central medians of the GST Road. Moreover, the plan includes three entry and exit ramps along the stretch. Additionally, NHAI completed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and has not yet floated the tenders. NHAI did not invite tenders yet because the proposed metro line between Chennai Airport and Kilambakkam must integrate with the corridor’s ramps. However, the state Government granted its final approval for the extension last week. Thus, the entry and exit ramps will integrate with the upcoming metro.
