Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) planned a new six-lane bridge to speed up road travel between Thane and Bhiwandi. Moreover, the authority designed the 2.2 Km structure to cross the Vasai creek and directly connect Kolshet with Kalher. The Thane Bhiwandi link project will cost an estimated 430 INR- Crore, and construction will finish in three years. Additionally, the bridge will cut travel time from 45 minutes to nearly 5–7 minutes.
Furthermore, MMRDA released tenders on Thursday, November 13, and moved the plan forward to support Bhiwandi’s growing industrial load. The town has seen rising movement toward Thane and Mumbai, and the new Thane Bhiwandi link will ease this pressure. Additionally, Bhiwandi will host a station on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train line, further increasing the construction demand.

Currently, commuters take a long detour via Balkum Naka and the old Kasheli bridge, and this route slows textile transport. Consequently, MMRDA stressed that the fast-tracked Thane Bhiwandi link is essential for industrial movement. Moreover, the authority expects the bridge to improve logistics and restore growth for the textile sector.
