The Tamil Nadu State Coastal Zone Management Authority (TNSCZMA) has cleared the estimated 204 INR-Crore project to build a new steel bridge in Chennai linking ECR and OMR across the Buckingham Canal. The plan includes 142 INR-Crore for land acquisition, 36 INR-Crore for construction, and 26 INR-Crore for link roads. With CRZ clearance now in process, the project is set to strengthen mobility along Chennai’s coastal routes.

The 6-Lane bridge will span 335 Meters and aims to ease traffic between the two major corridors. The bridge will be built at Neelankarai, offering direct connectivity between Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam 200 Feet Road, OMR, and ECR. This location helps close the existing 11 Km gap where both arterial roads currently do not meet. According to the plan, the project falls within a 99 Meters CRZ area and carries a completion timeline of five months.

Travel will become much easier for people who go from Tiruvanmiyur to Chennai Airport. Furthermore, this Chennai steel Bridge will use corrosion-resistant materials, making the structure stronger and more durable. It will also help reduce the overall carbon footprint.
