Odisha CM lays foundation for 451 INR-Crore water supply project in Sambalpur

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Sunday, January 11, laid the foundation stone for a mega water supply project in Sambalpur. Once completed, the project will provide residents with 24×7 purified drinking water.

The Sambalpur water supply project will see an estimated cost of 451.24 INR-Crore. As part of the initiative, nearly 340 Km of pipelines will be laid across Sambalpur city to strengthen the distribution network and ensure uniform supply. Additionally, the scope of work includes constructing an intake well and two modern water treatment plants. One plant will be set up in Sambalpur with a capacity of 65 MLD, while the other will be located in Burla with a 35 MLD capacity.

The project will deliver around 100 Million-Liters of pure drinking water per day. It will benefit nearly five lakh residents living in 41 wards, addressing the city’s long-standing water scarcity issues. Moreover, the CM emphasized that the project is part of the ‘Drink-From-Tap’ initiative under the Central Government‘s AMRUT 2.0 Scheme. Under this, residents will be able to drink water directly from the tap without the need for separate filtration.
