Madhya Pradesh secures 2,753 INR-Crore for Six Urban Infrastructure Projects Under Urban Challenge Fund

The National Apex Committee (NAC) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved six urban infrastructure projects in Madhya Pradesh. The projects involve an estimated total investment of 2,753.10 INR-Crore under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). The Center will provide 688.33 INR-Crore as UCF assistance. The remaining investment will be mobilized through institutional financing, public-private partnerships (PPP), and contributions from urban local bodies. The approved projects cover Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Rewa.

The approved package includes two projects worth 1,214.54 INR-Crore in Indore. These comprise a 907.74 INR-Crore Water Supply Distribution System Project and a 306.80 INR-Crore Sewerage and Wastewater Management Project. The water project includes new overhead tanks, feeder mains, universal metering, and SCADA-based monitoring to support a 24×7 water supply network. Meanwhile, the sewerage project will upgrade sewage treatment facilities and establish tertiary treatment capacity through a PPP model. Additionally, Ujjain secured approval for the 1,124.52 INR-Crore Integrated Temple Ecosystem Development Project. The project will connect 11 temple precincts and include riverfront conservation, public infrastructure upgrades, and environmental improvements. Further, Jabalpur received approvals for a 64.18 INR-Crore water supply project and a 250 INR-Crore sewerage scheme. Rewa also secured approval for a 99.86 INR-Crore Water Supply Augmentation Project.

The Madhya Pradesh Urban Challenge Fund projects are expected to strengthen water supply, sanitation, urban mobility, and heritage infrastructure across the state. Furthermore, the projects will support sustainable urban development through modern utility infrastructure and integrated city planning. Following the approvals, the state government will begin financial closure, tendering, and implementation planning.
