CMRL to construct a multi-storey building at Guindy Metro Rail, linking it with the metro and suburban stations

Chennai Metro Rail Limited will construct a multi-storey building at the Guindy Metro Rail station and transform it into a multi-modal transit hub for commuters. CMRL has identified a 3.48 Acres land parcel opposite the Guindy Metro Rail station for this project.

The facility will be similar to the upcoming Broadway complex, which will feature bus bays, retail outlets, and commercial spaces. The Guindy Metro Rail multi-storey building will be smaller than Broadway. An interchange hub for intra-city and inter-city buses is being planned. Further, parking facilities for two-wheelers and four-wheelers will be provided. Since the site lies near the airport on the flight path, CMRL must secure height clearance from the Airports Authority of India. After approval, the number of floors to build will be decided.

Currently, the Authority is considering constructing a structure with six to seven floors and will float tenders to prepare the plan. A foot over bridge is also being planned, which will connect the metro, suburban station, and the building with lifts and escalators. The consultant will finalize the project’s estimated cost and construction timeline. The contract will be awarded within 3 months.
