Foundation stone laid for 310 INR-Crore Guindy-Velachery Flyover

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on Thursday, February 5, virtually laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Guindy-Velachery flyover. The flyover will connect Sardar Patel Road in Guindy with the Guru Nanak College junction in Velachery. Moreover, the project was originally announced during the Tamil Nadu Budget session in 2025.

Implemented by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) under the Infrastructure and Amenities Fund, the Guindy-Velachery flyover is estimated to cost 310 INR-Crore. The 2-lane structure will be 3 Km long and 11.9 M wide. Furthermore, it will have approach roads at Five Furlong Road and Velachery Main Road.

The flyover will span from the Sardar Patel Road–Velachery Main Road junction to Guru Nanak College. It will further pass through the Race Course Road junction, Five Furlong Road junction, and Velachery Bypass Road junction. A 5.5 M-wide approach bridge will be built at Five Furlong Road. Meanwhile, another bridge measuring 4 M in width will be constructed near Guru Nanak College. Additionally, the scope includes service roads of 5.5 M and footpaths of 1.5 M on both sides.

Once completed, the Guindy-Velachery flyover is expected to benefit more than two lakh residents in Velachery, Guindy, and nearby areas. It will further ease traffic congestion at key junctions, particularly on Velachery Main Road and Five Furlong Road.
