The Center has approved road infrastructure projects worth an estimated 2,039 INR-Crore in Kerala. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister P K Basheer announced the approvals after meeting Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi. The sanctioned projects include highway widening works, bridge construction, and upgrades to multiple national highways. Additionally, the Center has granted in-principle approval for several other road infrastructure proposals across the state.
The approved projects include a bridge across the Kabani River. The bridge will connect Perikallur in Wayanad district with Bairakuppa in Karnataka. The project carries an investment of 49 INR-Crore. Additionally, the Center has sanctioned 98.40 INR-Crore for works on National Highway 744. It has also approved 172 INR-Crore for the National Highway 966 stretch from Ramanattukara to Chandragiri in Palakkad. Further, 66 INR-Crore has been allocated for the old National Highway 66 stretch from Kazhakkoottam to Balaramapuram. Meanwhile, the Center has sanctioned 1,663 INR-Crore for the four-laning of the Kadavoor–Anjilimoodu section of the Kollam–Theni National Highway. It has also granted in-principle approval for ropeway projects at Sabarimala, Munnar, and Wayanad. Further, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials will prepare and submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed elevated highway connecting Aroor to Kozhikode Airport.

The Kerala road projects are expected to strengthen highway connectivity across the state. Additionally, the approved works will improve links between key districts and enhance cross-border connectivity with Karnataka. The proposed bridge, highway widening works, bypasses, ropeways, and elevated corridor will further support the development of Kerala’s transport infrastructure.
