The Center has approved six urban infrastructure projects worth an estimated 2,719 INR-Crore for Ahmedabad under the Urban Challenge Fund. The projects will be implemented across Ahmedabad city. They include sewerage network rehabilitation, an intelligent water management system, an integrated sludge management facility, and an integrated transit management system with an automated fare collection system. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs approved the projects.
The approved works include 852.9 INR-Crore for rehabilitating the main sewerage network in western Ahmedabad. The project allocates 551.3 INR-Crore to rehabilitate the main sewerage network in eastern Ahmedabad. Additionally, it earmarks 290.2 INR-Crore for rehabilitating old sewerage networks across various parts of the city. The package also includes 215 INR-Crore for an intelligent water management system and 479.2 INR-Crore for a sludge management facility. Further, 331 INR-Crore has been approved for an Integrated Transit Management System (ITMS) and Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS).

The Ahmedabad urban infrastructure projects will modernize the city’s water, sewerage, and public transport systems. Additionally, the sewerage upgrades will support digital monitoring and improve stormwater management. The sludge management facility will also enable biogas and green energy production from sewage sludge. Meanwhile, the ITMS and AFCS projects will strengthen urban mobility across AMTS, BRTS, and Metro services.
