NTPC Board approves 20,457 INR-Crore investment for Lara Stage-III thermal project

State-run NTPC Ltd has approved an investment proposal worth an estimated 20,456.70 INR-Crore for the Lara Stage-III thermal project in Chhattisgarh. The project will add two ultra-supercritical thermal units of 800 MW each. This will bring the total capacity under Stage-III to 1,600 MW.

The NTPC Lara Stage-III thermal project is designed to strengthen India’s baseload power supply while supporting renewable integration. Located in Raigarh district, the expansion leverages the coal-rich belt of Chhattisgarh, ensuring efficient fuel logistics and regional development. Additionally, the project will enhance grid stability by providing reliable power to balance intermittent renewable sources.

Furthermore, the new units will use advanced technology to improve efficiency and reduce emissions compared to older thermal plants.
