VA Tech Wabag has secured two wastewater treatment projects from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) in Bengaluru. The contract includes the Design, Build, and Operate (DBO) of a 100 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Byramangala and a 60 MLD STP at Bellandur. Additionally, the company will develop a 25 MLD Tertiary Treatment Plant (TTP) at Byramangala. Wabag will complete the EPC scope within 36 months, followed by a seven-year Operations and Maintenance (O&M) period.
The project scope includes the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the treatment facilities. It also covers biogas-based captive power generation. The STPs will use the Activated Sludge Process integrated with a Biological Nutrient Removal system. Meanwhile, the TTP at Byramangala will use ultrafiltration technology to produce treated water for distribution to nearby water bodies. Notably, Wabag executed the first phase of the Bellandur facility and has now secured the second phase.

The Bengaluru wastewater treatment projects will strengthen the city’s wastewater and water infrastructure. Additionally, the facilities will incorporate anaerobic sludge digestion with biogas-based power generation. This approach is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve plant efficiency. Further, the projects will support resource recovery while advancing Bengaluru’s long-term water security and sustainability goals.
