The State Cabinet, on Tuesday, June 24, revised the administrative approval for the 80 MW Koyna dam foot project and allocated 862 INR-Crore. The facility will consist of two units, each with 40 MW power generation capacity, and will be located on the dam’s left bank.
The Government has approved 862 INR-Crore out of the total 1,337 INR-Crore. The lift irrigation schemes will cover the remaining funds for the Koyna hydro-power project. Furthermore, it is expected to provide 20 Thousand Million Cubic feet (TMC) of water to lift irrigation schemes, including Tembhu and Takari-Mhaisal, and generate approximately 278 million units of electricity.

The total water holding capacity of the dam is 105 TMC. 67.5 TMC out of the total supports power generation through the hydro-power complex located on the western side at Pophali. 30 TMC is released from the dam gates for irrigation purposes. Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation and Mahanirmiti Company Limited will develop this project.
