Arunachal Pradesh is moving forward with a significant healthcare initiative, beginning work on its second medical college. The project will establish a new medical college with 100 MBBS seats in Namsai. This development will take the total number of MBBS seats in the state to 200, a major step forward for medical education.
The Arunachal Medical College project has an estimated cost of 356.60 INR-Crore. The new institution will be built within the existing Namsai district hospital complex. The plan involves a major expansion, upgrading the current 100-bed facility with an additional 320 beds, ultimately bringing the total capacity to 420. The Directorate of Medical Education, Training & Research is currently carrying out the project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It is also in the bidding process to select a private partner to execute the work. The team expects to complete the project over the next seven years.

This visionary plan was first announced by Chief Minister Pema Khandu last November. He emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and medical education in Arunachal. Consequently, the establishment of this new medical college is a positive move toward ensuring more local students can pursue a medical career and improving the availability of advanced medical care for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
