The Sileru pumped storage project has received preliminary environmental clearance from the Central Government, marking a major step toward its development. Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (AP Genco) is developing the 13,000 INR-Crore project. It will include nine generating units of 150 MW each, with a total capacity of 1,350 MW. This preliminary approval enables AP Genco to proceed with the next environmental and legal clearances before starting construction.

The clearance follows a detailed review by the Environmental Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). The committee examined the project’s environmental management plan, social impact, and mitigation strategies before approving. As part of the process, AP Genco has submitted the required Stage-I forest clearance documents and compliance reports to secure the final environmental clearance, which is expected soon.
