Union Cabinet received approval for railway multi-tracking projects on Saturday, April 18. The projects will be developed across 15 districts in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh with an estimated total investment of 24,815 INR-Crore. The Ministry of Railways will execute the projects under the PM Gati Shakti framework.
The approved projects include the Ghaziabad–Sitapur 3rd and 4th line (403 Km) and the Rajahmundry–Visakhapatnam 3rd and 4th line (198 Km). Together, they will add about 601 Km of route length and 1,317 Km of track length to the existing railway network. The works will further involve track expansion, signaling upgrades, and associated rail infrastructure. The projects are targeted for completion by 2030–31.

Once completed, the railway multi-tracking projects will increase network capacity and reduce congestion on high-density routes. They will also improve freight movement and passenger connectivity across key industrial and logistics corridors.
