Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has proposed a manufacturing unit at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The company has expressed readiness to develop the proposed shipbuilding cluster. MDL representatives recently discussed the proposal with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The project could involve an investment of approximately 26,000 INR-Crore.
The Andhra Pradesh government is considering an agreement with MDL for constructing the Dugarajapatnam shipyard. The company has proposed a 30% subsidy on capital investment. Meanwhile, the state government is considering the quantum of subsidy. The Centre will fund common infrastructure required for the Dugarajapatnam port. The state government will provide land for the development. The AP Maritime Board has initiated action to acquire 2,200 Acres for the port and shipyard. The government has also decided to allocate 1,000 Acres for the shipyard and 1,350 Acres for ancillary industries. The AP Maritime Board and Visakhapatnam Port Authority will oversee the port and shipbuilding cluster.

Further, the government has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) to appoint a technical consultant. The consultant will prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Dugarajapatnam port and shipbuilding cluster. Officials will evaluate the proposals on August 24. The selected firm will prepare infrastructure estimates and a master plan. The plan will include the shipyard layout for the port and shipbuilding cluster. The proposed development will add shipbuilding and ship repair infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
