The Vijayawada railway station is set for a major transformation with an estimated 946.60 INR-Crore redevelopment project. The initiative aims to enhance passenger amenities, improve transport connectivity, and alleviate rail traffic congestion.
The redevelopment will follow the Design, Build, Finance, Operate & Transfer (DBFOT) model under a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. The total project cost includes 661.11 INR-Crore for mandatory components and 285.49 INR-Crore for non-mandatory components.
The Vijayawada railway station will feature:
- New East and West Side station buildings spanning 50.14 Acres.
- A central foot over bridge (FOB) of 12 Meters width and two side FOBs of 3 Meters width.
- Multi-level car parking and modernized passenger facilities.
- Expanded floor area of 1.54 Lakh-SqM, designed to accommodate 20,000 peak-hour passengers.

Currently, the Vijayawada railway station handles 57,000 daily boardings and a total footfall of 1.14 Lakh passengers. The master plan is designed to accommodate two lakh daily passengers over the next 40 years. With this redevelopment, the Vijayawada railway station will emerge as a modern transit hub, improving travel efficiency and boosting regional connectivity.
