The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved an estimated 2,528 INR-Crore high-speed freight corridor connecting the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Palghar district to the Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway, officially known as the Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. The proposed 104.8 Km corridor will streamline cargo movement and reduce travel distance by nearly 79 Km.

The project will be executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), with 1,500 INR-Crore in funding from HUDCO. It is expected to be completed within three years. The corridor is being planned to accommodate future high-volume freight traffic from the Vadhavan Transshipment Port. The port is currently under development as a major international cargo hub.

Currently, freight from Vadhavan must travel 183.48 Km via the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway to reach the Samruddhi corridor. The new route will cut this to 104.89 Km, slashing travel time from 4–5 hours to just 1–1.5 hours. Moreover, the corridor will pass through Dahanu, Vikramgad, Jawhar, and Mokhada in Palghar, and Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri in Nashik. This will further offer a direct logistics link between Maharashtra’s western coast and its central and eastern regions.
