Himachal Govt to develop world-class Him-Chandigarh Township

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Monday, January 5, announced plans for a world-class Him-Chandigarh township. The project will rise near the Himachal-Chandigarh border, close to Baddi in Solan district. It is aimed at strengthening industrial-residential connectivity and promoting sustainable urban growth.

The cabinet has already approved the acquisition of an anticipated 3,400 Bigha of land, with landowners’ consent largely secured. To meet planning requirements, up to 3,700 Bigha will be acquired. The Him-Chandigarh township will be developed in phases to ensure organized urban growth and adequate civic infrastructure.

The entire project will be managed by the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA). Moreover, it will include a mix of government and private land. The township will also cover the Baddi-Nalagarh industrial corridor, enhancing connectivity between industrial and residential zones.

The state government plans to pool village panchayat land across the border while preserving roughly 10,000 Bigha of forest area to maintain ecological balance. Additionally, a separate township near Morni Hills is under consideration, reflecting the government’s broader vision for planned regional development. Meanwhile, Him-Chandigarh township aims to decongest urban centers, provide planned housing, and create new economic opportunities.
