HOSMAC, Asia’s leading hospital planning, design, and management consultancy, has been engaged by Cipla, one of India’s foremost pharmaceutical companies, to design and develop the Breathefree Lung Wellness Center in Mumbai. The center was inaugurated on January 26, 2026, and is envisioned as a one-stop destination for comprehensive lung health diagnostics and wellness services.
Spread across approximately 8,000 SqFt, the facility is located in Prabhadevi and planned on a single ground-floor level. HOSMAC delivered a turnkey design solution for the project. Its scope included medical space planning, MEP design, and interior design. Consequently, the facility integrates clinical efficiency, regulatory compliance, and patient-centric design.
Adaptive Reuse and Healthcare Design Integration
Following the successful design and execution of Cipla’s Lung Health Center in Delhi, Cipla has once again partnered with HOSMAC for its Mumbai facility. This collaboration reinforces a shared vision of accessible, wellness-focused respiratory care. Building on insights from the Delhi project, the Breathefree Lung Wellness Center in Mumbai adopts adaptive reuse in healthcare architecture.
The space previously functioned as a banquet hall and has now been transformed into a fully operational clinical facility. This conversion required detailed structural assessment and targeted retrofitting. Throughout the process, structural integrity was maintained while aligning the facility with healthcare norms and regulatory requirements.

Interiors at the Breathefree Lung Wellness Center
Moving away from conventional sterile clinical environments, HOSMAC conceptualised the interiors around a central ‘Wellness’ theme. The design prioritises welcoming and calming spaces that help reduce stress for patients, attendants, and healthcare staff. Additionally, visually engaging interiors enhance comfort without compromising functionality.
Eco-friendly materials were incorporated throughout the Breathefree Lung Wellness Center, reinforcing Cipla’s commitment to sustainability and holistic well-being. This approach supports both environmental responsibility and long-term patient comfort.
Facilities and Integrated Lung Care Services
The Mumbai Breathefree Lung Wellness Center includes three OPDs, a waiting area with seating for 18–20 people. Moreover, it features a sputum laboratory and a physiotherapy unit. It also offers CT scan and X-ray services. The facility layout is carefully planned to retrofit the existing structure while ensuring smooth patient flow and high standards of care.
Speaking about the project, Dr. Vivek Desai, Founder and Managing Director, HOSMAC, said,
Healthcare today must go beyond diagnosis and treatment. It must actively support healing, dignity, and long-term wellness. In respiratory care especially, the patient’s emotional and physical comfort plays a critical role in outcomes. At HOSMAC, we align clinical functionality with human experience. This centre reflects that philosophy by enabling integrated lung care in a stress-reducing and efficient environment.”
Overall, the Mumbai centre strengthens Cipla’s Breathefree initiative, supported by HOSMAC’s integrated design approach. The project highlights adaptability, operational efficiency, and human-centric healthcare environments.
