The Union Government has announced that construction on six major road infrastructure projects across the National Capital Region (NCR) will begin between October 2026 and April 2027. The projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen access to key expressways and urban centers. These form a part of a broader decongestion plan comprising 10 infrastructure developments spanning nearly 186 Km, with an estimated investment of 34,800 INR-Crore.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced after reviewing the progress of the 6-lane access-controlled DND-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh corridor. The 59 Km corridor is nearing completion and will connect with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Western Peripheral Expressway. It is further expected to strengthen regional connectivity across Delhi-NCR.

NCR Road Infrastructure Projects to Improve Regional Connectivity

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the upcoming projects will include three new corridors connecting the Urban Extension Road II (UER II) with the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and the Delhi-Katra Expressway. One of the proposed projects is a 17 Km 6-lane corridor linking UER II to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Tronica City in Ghaziabad. The project’s alignment is in its final stage, and construction is expected to begin by December 2026.

These corridors are planned to ease long-standing traffic bottlenecks across Delhi and the wider NCR region. Once operational, the projects are expected to reduce travel time between major residential, industrial, and commercial zones. The development also aligns with the government’s broader focus on expanding high-speed road infrastructure and improving intercity mobility in northern India.

65 Km Integration Corridor Planned Between Key Expressways

Another major proposal includes a 65 Km highway corridor connecting the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway with the Noida-Faridabad region. Construction on the project is expected to begin by December 2026.

The integration corridor will link major routes, including the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, DND corridor, Faridabad, and the Yamuna Expressway. The road infrastructure project will strengthen regional connectivity and support smoother movement of passenger and freight traffic across NCR.

Ring Road-Maharani Bagh Highway Nears Completion

During the review meeting, the Union Minister stated that the 6-lane access-controlled highway linking Ring Road-Maharani Bagh to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is nearing completion.

The highway will provide direct connectivity to the Noida International Airport at Jewar and strengthen access to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor. The project is expected to further support smoother passenger and freight movement between Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, and western India.

Three Delhi Highway Corridors to be Redeveloped

The government has also announced the redevelopment of three major state highway stretches in Delhi that were recently taken over by the National Highways Authority of India.

These corridors will be upgraded into 6-lane signal-free express connectors to improve traffic flow within the capital. Construction work on these stretches is likely to begin in December 2026.

The proposed corridors include:

  • Ashram to Badarpur
  • Punjabi Bagh to Tikri Border
  • Vasant Kunj to Faridabad

The upgrades are expected to reduce travel delays on some of Delhi’s busiest urban routes while improving last-mile connectivity to neighbouring NCR cities.

UER II Service Roads Planned at 6,400 INR-Crore

Nitin Gadkari also announced plans for the construction of 2-lane secondary service roads on both sides of UER II. The investment for the project is estimated at 6,400 INR-Crore. The service roads are intended to improve access to nearby residential areas, logistics hubs, and commercial centers located along the corridor.

UER II, officially designated as NH-344M, is a 75.7 Km 6-lane access-controlled expressway that functions as Delhi’s third Ring Road. The corridor begins at Alipur and passes through Rohini, Mundka, Najafgarh, and Dwarka before connecting near Mahipalpur to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The project has emerged as one of Delhi’s key urban mobility corridors. It is further designed to divert heavy traffic away from central Delhi and improve regional freight movement.

Delhi-Katra Connectivity and UER II Expansion

The government has also proposed a connectivity project to link the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra corridor to UER II. Work on this project is likely to commence by March 2027. According to the ministry, the project will help divert traffic from the Delhi-Katra Expressway towards UER II and the Dwarka Expressway. The corridor is expected to further improve freight movement efficiency and reduce heavy vehicular traffic within Delhi.

NCR Road Infrastructure Projects

Shiv Murti Tunnel and AIIMS-Gurugram Elevated Corridor

Among the other proposed projects is an 8 Km 6-lane tunnel connecting Shiv Murti near the airport to Nelson Mandela Marg. The tunnel project, estimated to cost 7,000 INR-Crore, is expected to provide signal-free connectivity to Vasant Kunj through the Dwarka Expressway corridor.

The Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) has reportedly approved the proposal, while construction will begin after final cabinet clearance. Meanwhile, the Center is also planning a 20 Km 6-lane elevated corridor connecting AIIMS to Gurugram through Mahipalpur. Construction on the project is likely to begin by April 2027. Moreover, the signal-free corridor will reduce traffic congestion along Dhaula Kuan, Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, and Rao Tula Ram Marg.

Kalindi Kunj Interchange and Delhi Highway Upgrades

The government has further proposed a 0.5 Km interchange near the Okhla barrage at Kalindi Kunj. Land acquisition for the project has already started, and work is expected to commence by October 2026. Moreover, the interchange is expected to improve signal-free connectivity for commuters travelling towards Noida, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, and Faridabad.

Growing Focus on NCR Mobility Infrastructure

The latest announcement highlights the government’s continued push toward expanding large-scale road infrastructure projects in the NCR. With multiple expressways, urban connectors, and airport-linked corridors under development, the region is witnessing a major transformation in road-based mobility infrastructure.

These projects could further support faster movement of goods and improve commuting efficiency. They may also enhance connectivity between Delhi and emerging urban centers across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
